Get To Know Me & Who I'm Looking For

Introduction

Been around the block several times. Out only a short while since my wife died. Much positive about having a life companion, even though it was a sexless marriage. Not much sexual experience; willing to push the envelope. Tend towards moderate views on just about any topic. Only intoleant of intolerance. Not in denial about my own biases and limitations. Talk too much when I try too hard. Don't need to talk much at all when I'm comfortable. Don't have a lot of patience with cynics, even if I agree with them. My father used a lot of sarcasm. I consciously try to avoid using sarcasm. He overcame very modest beginnings to make something of himself. Didn't have good parenting skills, but there never was any doubt he loved me. Do sometimes have a temper of which I'm not all all proud. Like people with open minds who can think outside the box. They don't have to be intellectuals. Know plenty of people with limited educations who have a lot to offer. Two of my best (straight) friends don't have college degrees. I'm the kind of guy who will ask someone when was the last time s/he cried and what can get him/her so excited that s/he will try something s/he hasn't done before. But don't ask me to go bungee jumping or sky diving. Not cliff diving either. I'm a lousy swimmer. I have a weird sense of humor, like practical jokes and make lame puns. Some of my favorite movies are American Pie, Back to the Future, The Birdcage, Dead Poets Society, A Few good Men, The Godfather Movies, Good Will Hunting, The Green Mile, Hunt for Red October, The Matrix, One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, Risky Business, Stand By Me, The Sting and When Harry Met Sally. Can't help it if I'm a romantic. Action movies don't hold my interest, but a good melodrama does. Wish I knew the characters in Queer as Folk for real. M.A.S.H. is an all-time favorite. The only new show I watch with any regularity is The Big Bang Theory. Also watch reruns of shows like Criminal Minds, Cold Case, Law & Order and NCIS. Miss Will & Grace. Like strong characters. Read all kinds of books, both fiction and non-fiction. Done a lot of Europe. Would like to visit the Far East including China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia. Maybe Brazil. Have no stomach for traveling alone. Like to walk the streets and see how people live. Will take a tour to get oriented if I'm going to be in a new place for more than a day, but try to avoid cattle calls. Am in pretty good shape except for high blood pressure. Only about ten-fifteen pounds over my playing weight as a small college intercollegiate athlete. Soccer and track. Not a gym rat but would work out if I had a friend who went to the gym with me. A lot of people don't get me. They think they know me by my public personsa, but that's not who I really am and I'm not referring to sexual orientation. Like people best who like me for who I really am even when its not always pretty. Dreaming and fantasies are good, not just sexual fantasies. Prefer people with ambition who aren't afraid to show their emotions. When I meet a young person, I usually tell him to brag. I want to hear what he's really proud of. Modesty is appropriate some of the time, but more often it is overrated. I have a lot of respect for people who draw, perform, paint, sculpt or write... whether they are good at it or not. Same applies to athletes who put themselves on the line knowing they won't always win. I used to do alumni interviews of applicants for my college. I would ask them what kind of risks they had taken, not just a tough course. One boy who looked about fourteen thought for a moment about what to say. Then he told me he snuck out of the dorm while on a college campus for a summer program to spend the night with his girlfriend. He risked getting thrown out of the program. He had the grades, but more than that he had spunk. He got admitted. Fucked like a bunny while an undergraduate. He has a family now with two sons. My kind of kid.
